⭘ In China's rapid urbanization process, many cities sometimes neglect the protection and inheritance of local culture while pursuing high economic growth. This process has resulted in a tendency of homogenization in many commercial districts, with the original regional characteristics gradually being diluted. In addition, when some commercial development projects try to integrate local cultural elements, they are often only superficial, resulting in a large number of commercial districts that only imitate traditional architecture in appearance, without digging deeper and showing the local historical and cultural heritage. This phenomenon not only loses the uniqueness of local culture, but also puts the soul and memory of the city at risk of disappearing.
⭘ From the perspective of urban design, this paper analyzes the development and transformation of Chikan Ancient Town, as well as the causal relationship between Chikan New District and the Ancient Town, and puts forward the core problem of this paper: how to continue the lifestyle and sense of belonging of the residents of the Ancient Town who have been moved into the new district, i.e., how to integrate the elements of the Chikan Ancient Town's locality into the design of the new city's commercial district.
