The 14th São Paulo International Architecture Biennale will be held from September 18 to October 19, 2025, at Ibirapuera Park in São Paulo, Brazil. Organized by the São Paulo branch of the Brazilian Institute of Architects (IABsp), the main venue will be the Pavilhão da Oca.
The theme of this year’s Biennale is "Architectures for an Overheated Planet," focusing on how architecture can address climate change, resource inequality, and social issues. In an era marked by frequent extreme weather events, the exhibition will provoke thought on how architecture can respond to the climate crisis, exploring extreme solutions to address both climate challenges and resource shortages.
Doreen Heng Liu + NODE Architecture & Urbanism, in collaboration with the GBA Lab at Shenzhen University, has been invited to participate in this year’s Biennale with their research and practice project titled "Water Future Scenarios: Sustainable Water Urbanism."
○Water Future Scenarios
The exhibition will present the project "Water Future Scenarios," a research initiative by the GBA Lab focused on the interconnections between land, water infrastructure, and public space. This project offers a systematic thinking on the water environment at both the regional and urban scales, as well as design prospects for overcoming future water crises. It provides a region-specific framework for architectural design practices, addressing specific challenges related to water.
The exhibition will also showcase five representative and research-driven projects from Doreen Heng Liu + NODE Architecture & Urbanism, rooted in Shenzhen and the Pearl River Delta. These projects reflect the studio's unique architectural practices in urban renewal and the publicization of infrastructure, offering insights into "atypical" architectural creativity.
