2024 "SOUTH TO SOUTH" LECTURE SERIES | The Future is Now——From Bauhaus to Kuehn Malvezzi Architects

 ○ The lecture began with an examination of the origins and core principles of the Bauhaus. Founded in 1919 in Weimar, the Bauhaus quickly became a global symbol of progressive design, renowned for its rational aesthetics and deep commitment to social welfare. Professor Kuehn will build on this legacy to analyze key issues and evolving trends in contemporary European architecture, exploring both tradition and innovation in modern architectural practice.

Through the analysis of selected case studies, the lecture will bridge the forward-thinking design ethos of the Bauhaus with the innovative practice of Kuehn Malvezzi. Professor Kuehn will further demonstrate how the principles of the Bauhaus from the 1920s continue to exert a profound influence on contemporary architectural theory and practice.

The projects presented emphasize the role of architecture in assuming social responsibility within contemporary society. By integrating architecture, landscape design, and art, Kuehn Malvezzi adopts a collaborative and problem-solving approach to addressing pressing social and environmental challenges. This lecture will highlight the firm’s commitment to sustainable development and its vision of shaping a livable, inspiring future through architectural innovation and idealism.
