Research Exhibition by the Greater Bay Area Lab Opens at Aedes Architecture Forum, Berlin

○ On February 7, 2025, the exhibition Wind Blows, Water Rises opened at Aedes Architecture Forum in Berlin. Initiated by Doreen Heng Liu and NODE Architecture & Urbanism, in collaboration with the Greater Bay Area Innovation Design Lab at Shenzhen University (SZU), the exhibition was launched alongside an opening ceremony and thematic forum. It presents a comprehensive overview of NODE’s “atypical” architectural practice in the fields of urban regeneration and the publicization of infrastructure, while also showcasing the Lab’s research on multi-scalar urban water environments and speculative design responses to future ecological challenges.

○ At the opening ceremony, remarks were delivered by Hans-Jürgen Commerell, Director of Aedes; Li Xinggang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Fan Yue, Dean of the School of Architecture and Urban Planning at Shenzhen University; and Eduard Kögel, curator of the section NODE: Practices from Shenzhen. Speakers highly commended the achievements of NODE and the Greater Bay Area Lab, noting that the exhibition provides a critical lens into the development of Shenzhen and the Greater Bay Area. Through experimental practice and innovative design, the work on view offers insightful responses to pressing urban challenges shared globally. The exhibition was officially opened by Doreen Heng Liu, founder and principal architect of NODE, distinguished professor at SZU, and director of the Greater Bay Area Lab, following her welcome address.
